So You Think You Don’t Have Time?

So You Think You Don't Have Time_

I saw the following video on Facebook a little while ago and it’s been weighing on my mind ever since. Go on, take the three minutes and watch it all the way through. I’ll just wait right here…     Powerful message right? In living out my 2017 focus word, joy, I’ve been working on being more in tune with my happiness. I make time for gratitude and I make a conscious effort to maintain a constructive mindset. What I don’t think I realized until recently, though, was how vital time is in all of that. Time (and how you spend yours) is such a big player in the secret to real contentment. That being said, let me introduce a related quote that is truly changing how I think about (and act on) things these days:   You have time for anything. You have time to pour your heart into […]

Mid-Year Check-In | Finding Happiness

Mid-Year Check-In

You guys, life is good. My (completely unplanned) focus word for 2017 is joy, but the year certainly didn’t start out that way. I didn’t make a new year’s resolution. I had never done focus words before and, frankly, I didn’t really understand them. I didn’t set out to start any new hobbies or change something about myself or anything (other than starting a gratitude journal, read that story here). But, life had other ideas for me. About a month into the new year, I had an epiphany ( 😉 ). I had spent the first few weeks of semester (so early to mid-January) in a constant state of anger and annoyance. I had zero patience, was tense all of the time, wasn’t sleeping, and could have been set off by any little thing. I’m still not entirely sure why I was like that, but it was not a good […]

Mid-Year Check-In | Finding Gratitude

Finding Gratitude

I don’t think I’ve shared this online yet, but on January 1 of this year, I started a gratitude journal. Now, I may have some success faking it as a writer ( 😉 ), but I’m definitely not a journaler. Frankly, I’m lazy, never know what to say, and feel silly writing whatever I decide should be written down. Despite that, I wanted to tackle this journal idea. I had gotten a new notebook for Christmas and there is so much opportunity in a book of blank pages! It’s now been 163 days into the year and I have kept a gratitude entry for every single one of them. The goal was to work on finding something to be thankful for in every day, no matter how small. I don’t know what I was hoping to get out of that, if anything, but my big life epiphany came not too […]

Why You Need To Read “The Subtle Art Of Not Giving A F*ck” By Mark Manson

Why You Need To Read _The Subtle Art Of Not Giving A F_ck_

*First, I know I’m not one to personally use any, shall we say…strong language, so this post may catch you a little by surprise. That being said, I do understand the power of using it properly (if there is such a thing 😉 ) and this book definitely packs that punch. Any use of unprofessional language is not reflective of me, will not be my own, and will only occur in any quotes I pulled from the book itself. I didn’t want to censor the quotes I shared because I feel they are important and should not be discredited solely because of any differences in language opinion. Okay, warning note over, let’s get to the good stuff!   I’ve quoted Mark Manson’s most recent book, The Subtle Art of Not Giving a F*ck, in various posts over the past few months because it’s just incredible. This is the only book […]

9 Struggles of Being Mostly Legs

9 Struggles Of Being Mostly Legs

Humans are weird. We also have some of the weirdest struggles with some of the most simplest tasks. Always getting comments on how long your legs are? Constantly feel like a giraffe or a flamingo? This list is for you. Here are 9 struggles you’ll only get if your legs are disproportionately long compared to the rest of you.   1. Buying pants requires 50 stores, a minimum 3-day commitment, and a sacrifice to the gods. via I mean, after all the work required to find a single pair of jeans that are long enough, you’ve basically finished a full body workout (or at least that’s what I tell myself). And when you do find that magic pair? You buy it in every wash available. Thank you, American Eagle. You’re amazing.   2. People always ask if you run. via Do I run? Ha. Could I run? Probably. Will I […]

13 Things We Need To Tell Each Other More Often

Things We Need To Tell Each Other More Often

At the end of the day, we have nothing if we don’t have each other. The foundation of being humans, at least in my eyes, is the connections and bonds formed between us. Any kind of relationship takes work; I think the following thirteen statements are some of the most simple yet powerful ways to strengthen and maintain those relationships. They’re words that I believe all of us could agree would completely make our day if we heard just one of them from just one person. You have to put in effort, but your inner circle should be worth it. It’s up to us to make society a happier place to be. We’re in this life together, so please don’t let the people most important to you fade away.   1. I care about you. Simple one to start out with, right? Obviously we know how important the people in […]

13 Quotes That Prove Morning Is The Best Time Of Day

13 Quotes That Prove Morning Is The Best Time Of Day

You guys, I absolutely love mornings. I love everything about them, especially how, even if you’ve stayed up a little too late the night before, you just can’t help but step back and appreciate how incredible this world is. Mornings are quiet and calm. They’re still. They always have this special haze settled about them that makes you feel like you’re living a dream. There’s nothing like sitting outside (or by the window in the winter) with a cup of coffee and watching the sun rise or campus slowly come to life. This weekend was so beautiful and I consider myself lucky in that I was able to get up with the sun and experience all it had to offer. I spent the weekend in such a state of appreciation that I just had to share it with you! With the morning sun comes renewal and peace. It brings hope […]

10 Years Of Writing To Someone I’ve Never Met

This upcoming new year will mark an important milestone for me and a unique person in my life- I’ve been writing to a girl I’ve never met for the past ten years. It all started in fifth grade when my language arts class paired with another class in Illinois. We sent letters throughout the school year to a student in the opposite class, our new pen pal. I wrote my first letter to Kendra and, a short time later, it all became real when I got one back! I am so grateful that my teacher gave us this opportunity because it’s given me this different dimension to my life and it’s been a blast! Kendra knows all of the big (and little and sometimes even minor 😉 ) things that go on in my life. We don’t have to pretend to be someone we’re not. We can write with authenticity […]

What To Do When You’re Feeling Overwhelmed

Can I just say that classes this year went from 0 to 100 real quick? In addition to all new subjects to deal with, I have more extra curricular and work responsibilities than I’ve ever had before. Don’t get me wrong, I don’t regret any of those responsibilities; I’m gaining great leadership experience and having a lot of fun in the process. This, however, means that I have a lot more on my plate. I need to manage my time even more specifically to meet my various deadlines. I’m also finding myself sleep-deprived, stressed, and overwhelmed more regularly. Life shouldn’t be so exhausting all of the time. You shouldn’t have to go through your days feeling like there’s too much for you to handle. “Strength doesn’t come from what you can do. It comes from overcoming the things you once thought you couldn’t.” -Rikki Rogers I know you can handle […]
