You guys, life is good. My (completely unplanned) focus word for 2017 is joy, but the year certainly didn’t start out that way. I didn’t make a new year’s resolution. I had never done focus words before and, frankly, I didn’t really understand them. I didn’t set out to start any new hobbies or change something about myself or anything (other than starting a gratitude journal, read that story here). But, life had other ideas for me. I don’t think I’ve shared this online yet, but on January 1 of this year, I started a gratitude journal. Now, I may have some success faking it as a writer ( 😉 ), but I’m definitely not a journaler. Frankly, I’m lazy, never know what to say, and feel silly writing whatever I decide should be written down. Despite that, I wanted to tackle this journal idea. It all started in fifth grade when my language arts class paired with another class in Illinois. We sent letters throughout the school year to a student in the opposite class, our new pen pal. Can I just say that classes this year went from 0 to 100 real quick? In addition to all new subjects to deal with, I have more extra curricular and work responsibilities than I’ve ever had before. Don’t get me wrong, I don’t regret any of those responsibilities; I’m gaining great leadership experience and having a lot of fun in the process. This, however, means that I have a lot more on my plate. I need to manage my time even more specifically to meet my various deadlines. I’m also finding myself sleep-deprived, stressed, and overwhelmed more regularly. Life shouldn’t be so exhausting all of the time.
