If you’ve read my post about living alone this past summer then you know that I’ve recently come to appreciate the power of Spotify on my mental sanity. Today I want to share (in no particular order) the songs that can always put a smile on my face!
1. Gold by Britt Nicole
I first heard this song when I was exploring a thrift shop and I just stopped in my tracks. I don’t know why it spoke to me like it did, but between the fun pop beat and the great message, I was just so happy. I also really love how she’s telling both girls and boys they matter; you just don’t see that kind of self-love support for boys these days, which is something I really believe in.
“So hold your head up high
It’s your time to shine
From the inside out it shows
You’re worth more than gold”
2. Brand New by Ben Rector
I heard this song on the radio one day and I really wish I knew the words because it’s just so fun! The way some people connect with each other is just so magical, I love it.
“Like when I close my eyes and don’t even care if anyone sees me dancing
Like I can fly, and don’t even think of touching the ground
Like a heartbeat skip, like an open page
Like a one way trip on an aeroplane
It’s the way that I feel when I’m with you, brand new”
3. Wasted Time by Keith Urban
Country music just always seems so pure to me, so good-natured and honest and passionate and sweet. Just like Keith Urban, am I right 😉
I love how this song makes you think about the little adventures with the people you love. You may not be doing anything big or exciting, but you’re living life together and I think that’s beautiful.
“When I think about those summer nights
Sneaking out the window, running back roads, your hand in mine
We were going nowhere, we were so alive
Ain’t it crazy how the best days of my life
Was all that wasted time”
4. Lose Yourself by Eminem
It’s kind of funny that I not only have a rap song following a country song on this list, but that I actually listened to a rap song at all. This is one of the only rap songs I’ve heard where I can truly appreciate the message. From what I’ve heard and briefly read online about Eminem’s journey to where he is today, I have a lot of respect for him. The song’s not exactly upbeat or positive, but I find it really motivational.
“You better lose yourself in the music, the moment
You own it, you better never let it go
You only get one shot, do not miss your chance to blow
This opportunity comes once in a lifetime you better”
5. Stand in the Light by Jordan Smith
I knew from the moment this guy opened his mouth at auditions on The Voice that I wanted him to win. His voice is so beautiful and this song is so uplifting!
“This is who I am inside
This is who I am I’m not gonna hide
‘Cause the greatest risk we’ll ever take is by far
To stand in the light and be seen as we are”
6. My Front Porch Looking In by Lonestar
This song really makes you appreciate the people you have in your life and what a blessing they are. It’s not hard to take a step back and recognize what you’ve been given in this world, but we should all do it more often.
“The mountains and the canyons reach from sea to shining sea
But I can’t wait to get back home to the one He made for me
‘Cause anywhere I’ll ever go and everywhere I’ve been
Nothin’ takes my breath away like my front porch looking in”
7. Beautiful Soul by Jesse McCartney
I always picture Jesse McCartney singing this on the Suite Life of Zack and Cody and imagine Maddie and London getting this little serenade and then I’m jealous of two fictional girls dressed as waiters at a sound check or something. It’s fine, I’m fine…
“You’re the one I wanna chase
You’re the one I wanna hold
I won’t let another minute go to waste
I want you and your beautiful soul”
8. House Party by Sam Hunt
Sam Hunt. Enough said.
This song just makes you want to grab your partner-in-crime and tear up the living room. #relationshipgoals for real. It shows that you can have the time of your life without anything extravagant. Take the simple things in life and turn yourself up a notch. You can have a party anywhere, anytime, it’s up to you!
“So I’ll be at your door in ten minutes
Whatever you got on, baby, stay in it
You ain’t gotta leave the house to have a good time
I’m a bring the good time home to you”
9. Footloose by Kenny Loggins
Really, no explanation needed for this one. It’s a dancing song. Go dance.
“You’re playing so cool, obeying every rule
Dig a way down in your heart
You’re burning yearning for some
Somebody to tell you that life ain’t passing you by”
10. Feelin’ It by Scotty McCreery
First of all, let me brag and say Scotty McCreery went to my school. I missed him by ONE YEAR. Do you understand how upset I am about that? Well, this song can make me feel a little better about that. It’s so beachy and who doesn’t feel good with a nice sea salt breeze going on?
“And I can’t, I can’t find nothin’ wrong
With nothin’, nothin’ that’s goin’ on
It’s makin’ me wanna sing a song
That goes like this”
I’ve compiled these songs in a playlist on Spotify if you want to listen to them! If you have one you’d like to share, leave it below and I’ll add it to the playlist!
