I have to get up for work at 5:30 every morning and, though I’m a self-proclaimed morning person, I like my morning routine to be as easy as possible. Since I’m a mess in the kitchen (especially when I’m half-asleep and running late), I was so excited to try out this recipe for make-ahead fruit and yogurt parfaits from Iowa Girl Eats! These easy parfaits have 4 base ingredients, but a ton of options to make it your own. They’ve made my mornings so much smoother and breakfast is super quick and painless, not to mention yummy! So, today I’m sharing her recipe as well as some different ideas for how to make it your own.

Not only are these parfaits super easy to put together (duh), but all you need to do in the morning is pull one out of the refrigerator and get on with your day. They are super fresh and full of flavor. Plus, I like to think they’re a healthy choice for breakfast! I also find them a lot fun as there is so much room for experimentation and customization; the more colors, the better in my opinion!

I make one right after dinner as I’m making my lunch for the following day and it really doesn’t take that long. Trust me, if I say it’s quick, it must be, since nothing in the kitchen is ever simple for me 😉


The Recipe

Like I said, find the full, original recipe with measurements and everything on Iowa Girl Eats here. For a basic overview of what you’ll need on hand though, just look below!

  • Greek Yogurt- I’ve been using Dannon’s vanilla and it’s so good!
  • Milk- Try it with almond or coconut milk too!
  • Oats
  • Fruit- Use frozen, fresh, or a mix of both. When you use frozen, though, the fruit will melt a little in the refrigerator and pack in even more flavor!

That’s it! All you do is mix the yogurt, milk, and oats together, layer that and the fruit in a container with a lid, and refrigerate overnight- or eat right away if you just can’t wait 😉 .

Make a couple at a time since they keep for a few days. Just 15 minutes on Sunday night can give you a few extra minutes of sleep during the week.


Other Add-Ins

The recipe on IGE also mixes in chia seeds, which I wanted to do but I couldn’t find them in the *45 minutes* I spent wandering the grocery store. But. In case you know your way around your aisles a lot better than I do, here are some other ideas for mix-ins and layers!

  • Fruit
    • Berries- strawberries, blueberries, raspberries, blackberries, all the things!
    • Mango
    • Pineapples
    • Kiwis
    • Peaches
    • Cherries
    • Pomegranate
    • Banana
  • Chocolate Chips
  • Nuts- walnuts, almonds, pecans, peanuts, hazelnuts, go crazy!
  • Raisins
  • Granola
  • Flax Seeds
  • Cereal- Cheerios, Frosted Flakes, etc!
  • Graham Crackers
  • Coconut
  • Honey
  • Cinnamon
  • Nutmeg
  • Brown Sugar

My go-to for the past week has been blueberries, strawberries, and cinnamon. It may be because that’s all I have at home right now, but it’s still amazing! This week, I’m hoping to track down those chia seeds and some honey to add a little something different.
